Practice Philosophy

My treatment philosophy focuses on building resiliency through holistic, long-lasting changes to help my patients achieve a balanced and fulfilling life. I have been fortunate to develop many different skill sets in the treatment of mental health and addiction, and I am excited to be able to offer customized treatments for my patients. I provide a warm, empathic, and active therapy style, and I bring a conservative approach to medication while considering all aspects of health in treatment planning. My role is to help my patients reach their goals by providing clinical expertise, education, and compassion in a non-judgmental space. I incorporate prescription medications, plant-based diet changes, lifestyle changes, and elements of mind-body medicine into a complete treatment plan to help you reach your goals. I also provide education about treatment, diagnosis, and medications to my patients at every step to help guide treatment decisions and to maximize the benefits of our work together.

In my free time, I am a busy mom of two toddlers, and I spend my time enjoying my family, reading romance novels, and going on family adventures.

Practice Philosophy
Having primary care as the framework for my education as a physician assistant, I examine mental health with a holistic lens. I believe the most efficacious treatment plans integrate the care of mind, body and soul. By taking a wider integrative approach to care, together we will consider the whole brain, body, spirit system.

After PA school, I trained personally under one of the pioneers and experts using of functional neuroimaging in psychiatry. I read brain images as part of psychiatric evaluation for over 12 years of my collective practice experience. This training helped me develop a deep understanding of neurophysiology, its effects on mental and physical health. My philosophy of practice is based on this understanding. I utilize a brain system approach to care when using medications as well as other treatment modalities to adapt brain neurochemical balance and achieve optimal neuropsychiatric function. Functional health, whether mental or physical starts with creating optimal balance in the system. Whether it is neurochemistry, body chemistry, diet, work-life, family, romance, or finance having balance in these parts of ourselves make up our ability to be resilient.

Joseph Stabley physician assistant

Joseph Stabley, PA-C

BOARD CERTIFIED PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Joe Stabley is one of our nationally certified Physician Assistants. He completed his undergraduate degree in Health Care Science from the University of Colorado in 2011. Shortly thereafter, Joe was accepted into the highly competitive Interservice Physician Assistant Program which was developed through the Department of Defense and accredited by the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Upon completion, he was awarded a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree and commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the US Army.

Prior to the pursuit of higher education, he gained invaluable life experience out of high school by enlisting in the military to “see the world”. Global engagement with vulnerable populations lead to a greater understanding of human suffering. Personal stories from peacekeeping missions, humanitarian crisis relief, and combat operations helped shape his perspective on life. This ultimately set the stage for a higher calling into the field of mental health and addiction. His 21 years of military service concluded with certification as a Master Resilience Trainer prior to retirement. This program was developed at the Positive Psychology Center at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania.

As a PA, Joe has also worked in variety of settings to include traditional roles in Urgent Care and Emergency Medicine. Knowledge in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine was gained in both private practice as well as the CA state prison system. Care for the homeless population in LA County and treating refugees crossing the US-Mexico border were two of the most humbling experiences of his life. Finally, volunteering for testing and vaccination support with a non-profit during the COVID pandemic was essential before returning to work in the drug and alcohol rehab industry.

Practice Philosophy

My hope is to bridge the knowledge gap by sharing what I have learned directly with my patients. Understanding the basics of epigenetics, neuroscience and human behavior will shed light on your past. Applying knowledge from Lifestyle Medicine and exploring Psychopharmacotherapy are my specialities…finding your purpose, passion and peace are the goals for your future.
